Guwahati, Assam, 14th August 2024: The non-governmental organization, Touch of Humanity–Let’s Be Human, celebrated its 5th Anniversary and Foundation Day with a grand event held at the Srimanta Sankardev International Auditorium, Kalakshetra, Panjabari. The event brought together renowned personalities from various sectors, highlighting the organization’s commitment to social welfare and humanitarian causes over the past five years.
The day’s program included the 3rd Touch of Humanity Award Ceremony, where individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to society were honored. The awardees included social reformers, activists, and other eminent personalities who have been at the forefront of change in their respective fields. The International Conclave on United Nations Mechanisms was another highlight of the day, featuring discussions on global humanitarian challenges and solutions, with experts and representatives from various international bodies in attendance.
One of the key attractions of the event was the Charity Concert, which aimed to raise funds for the ongoing initiatives of the NGO. The concert featured performances by well-known artists, drawing an enthusiastic response from the audience.
Touch of Humanity–Let’s Be Human has gained recognition for its impactful work in the community, including last year’s significant achievement of organizing a record-breaking event where the State Anthem of Assam, "O Mur Apunar Dekh," was performed by a large group of deaf and mute individuals. This event, which was part of their 4th Anniversary celebration, was recorded in the Assam Book of Records and attended by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Speaking at the event, the organizers expressed their gratitude to all those who have supported the NGO’s journey. “It has been a remarkable five years, and we are committed to continuing our work to uplift and empower communities. We are thankful for the support we’ve received from the public, our partners, and the media,” said a spokesperson for the NGO.
The event featured the 3rd edition of the Touch of Humanity Awards, recognizing individuals who have made significant contributions across various sectors. Notable awardees included:
Lovlina Borgohain, an Indian boxer and Olympic Bronze Medallist, honored in the Sports (Female) category.
Dr. Purima Devi Barman, a wildlife biologist and UNEP Champion of the Earth, recognized for her work in Environmental Conservation.
Renu Dutta Borphukan, a pioneer in women empowerment, celebrated as the first female singer of Mobile Theatre and the first woman police personnel in Assam.
Ruchi Bharadwaj Borah- Coach (FFITTR), INFS Certified Coach, Coaching Excellence Award Winner, Former Assistant Professor (NIT)
Pranab Malakar, a Turtle Conservationist, and Mathuranath Dey, an expert in human-wildlife conflict resolution, were acknowledged for their contributions to animal welfare Distinguished Guests: The event was graced by a host of eminent personalities, including Bijuli Kalita Medhi, Member of Parliament, Guwahati, as the Guest of Honour.Special guests included BABLOO LOITONGBAM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, HUMAN RIGHTS ALERT and ADVOCATE SANGHARSH SHAKYA HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDER, MAHARASHTRA. .
